Wild Pheasant

We welcome you to enjoy Montana’s best kept secret.

Montana simply does not have the border to border agriculture to compete with North Dakota and South Dakota in sheer numbers of Pheasants but certain areas have some tremendous hunting and our well managed properties insure that you will have it all to yourself. We offer a more laid back setting than you will find at most Pheasant hunting camps with an emphasis on quality dog work and tight holding birds. There is a time and a place for 10-20 man pheasant drives with pushers and blockers and lead flying everywhere but you won’t find that here. Our idea of a good time is watching a pointer lock up or a flusher getting birdy then tracking the bird down to the flush. When the dog brings back a three year old, long tailed rooster that is just icing on the cake.

When is the best time to hunt?

We get asked this question a lot and the answer really depends on what kind of hunt you’re looking for. Every phase of the season has its own benefits and drawbacks, please read below to see which hunt might be best for you.

October- The second Saturday in October brings the start of our Pheasant hunting season here in Montana. The saying out west is if you don’t like the weather just wait ten minutes. While the the forecast is always varied and unpredictable you can typically expect to see sunshine and blue skies with moderate temperatures during these hunts. If you are a fair weather hunter then this is the time of year that you will want to hunt with us.

The drawback to hunting in October is that if the daytime temps hit 70 and above it can wear the dogs out quickly. You will also find that the birds are not a concentrated as you will find them later in the season and have a tendency to run in the tall grass. Be prepared to cover more ground in order to bag your limit this time of year.

November/December provide very productive pheasant hunting. The birds are concentrated into the best covers and when you find them the shooting can be fast and furious. If you are not afraid to put on a pair of gloves and some long underwear this time of year can produce some tremendous days afield. This time of year the Sharp-tail and Hungarian partridge hunting is not as predictable or productive as you will find in September and October. For this reason we love to combine Pheasant and Waterfowl hunting to add a little diversity should you bag your limit in the first few hours of the hunt.
